Welcome to First Grade
Room 109
Congratulations!  You are the parent of a Milton first-grader.  You will be amazed at just
how much your child will grow this year.  Most likely, your child has had the seeds of
reading and writing planted, and during first grade, those seeds will grow and blossom,
making your child an accomplished reader and writer! You will see changes in your child's
thinking, as he/she becomes familiar with abstract concepts and symbols.  The change
will be dramatic--just compare a tiny seed with a full-grown sunflower!  That's the kind
of growth you'll see this year!

The most lovely flowers usually have the best gardener - and that's YOU!  Staying
involved in your child's education is the key to a successful year.  Engage your child in
conversation about his/her day, but know that children won't always give out information.
I will post our weekly agenda detailing our activities for the week.  You can use this as a
springboard for discussion; instead of saying "What did you do at school today? (the
answer is often "nothing!"), you can say, "Oh, I see you're learning about...  what did you
find out?"

Another way to stay involved is to check your child's binder EVERY evening.  You'll
usually find it PACKED with school work, flyers, and notes from me.  As daunting as it
may be, try to sort through them, and read them as they often contain important
information and reminders.  Your child should come to school the next day with a fairly
empty orange folder (which is in the binder) -- just homework and notes to me.

To help keep things growing "weed-free", it helps to remember our class procedures.
If your child is going to be traveling home a different way, please send me a note dated
and signed telling me the specifics so that your child gets safely to his/her destination.

Our goal this year is to help your child grow to his/her potential in a productive and
enriching learning environment.  As you know, this can only be accomplished if we work
together.  I welcome any suggestions, insights, and ideas you might have that will help me
to make this year productive for your child and his/her classmates.  Please feel free to
contact me at home (856-1667) with anything concerning your child.

Your child's future is greatly determined by the education he/she receives today.
Please be assured that I will do my best to make sure that your chid has a successful
and productive year.

Here's wishing us all a wonderful year of growth!

Sincerely,
Ms. Juneau
