Unit 1
I
Search
F
ind our Families,
Finding
Ourselves
Time Frame:  4 to 5 weeks
There will be five parts to your I-Search project.  In your search for finding out about your
family history, you will need to interview one of your oldest relatives.  Below are the parts and
due dates for this project.
Starting at the left-hand margin, actually type the name of the section and then type the
section information in double-spaced paragraphs.  Create different paragraphs within the
sections.  DO NOT just write one long paragraph.  When you have completed the paragraphs
for a section, move four spaces down and type the name of the next section (ie What I already
know, making connections...)  You need to use Times New Roman and size 14 font.   You will also
need to have a title page - Title of your paper, your name and a picture (can be scanned).
Part 1
DUE March 4th
WHAT I ALREADY KNOW
Tell which older relative you will choose to interview.  Describe
everything you know about this relative BEFORE the interview takes
place.  (5 - 7 sentences- one paragraph)

Part 2
DUE March 8th

MAKING CONNECTIONS
Tell what questions you will ask your relative and why you are
interested in these questions.
Printable questions

Part 3
DUE March 19th

THE SEARCH
Here is where you will conduct an interview.  This is, in essence, the
body of your paper.  You will tell how and when the interview took
place.  You will tell their story.  Organize it in a way that will make
sense to the reader.  Try to tell the "story" of their life as it was told
to you.  Give situations and examples that are unique and interesting.
This part should be at least two pages in length.  Of course the best
situation for an interview would be in person, but if this is impossible,
a phone interview is OK.  I DO NOT want you to send the questions
to your relative and have them answer them.  The interaction will be
lost if you do this... as they answer one question during the
interviewing process, many more questions can come up that you will
not think of if you just have them write down the answers.

Part 4
Due March 26th

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED
Here is where you will reflect upon the entire experience.  Looking
back over the
time spent with your relative, what things did you learn
that meant the most to you?  What knowledge have you gained that
you feel you could possibly use in your own life?  Explain how this
work has affected your relationship with your relative.  If you were to
conduct this interview again, what would you do differently and what
would you do the same?  Why?  What have you learned about yourself
through this experience?

Part 5
PRESENTATION
(You will present March 29th and 30th)
Here is where you will present your I-Search project in the form of
(Examples):
*A tri-fold posterboard
decorated with pictures and information
*A PPT with pictures and info
*A movie can be made if your interview was face to face
(If you need to use one of my
flipvideo cameras for this, you are more than
welcome.)
